We practiced these songs for eighteen months in a store basement. I was twenty seven, married with three great kids; into Sci fi, God, Death and the Environment.. Recorded the album at Criteria Studios in twenty eight hrs. Few over dubs.
We were ready
We signed a three album deal with Capitol Records, . They would not release DOC, a Concept Album. Producer Michael Sunday: "I'll be back in two weeks. Write me an album". We wrote our classic. BANG album in two weeks went to Criteria Studios in Miami and recorded it . 'Questions' was #1 in Hong Kong
This was a fun album to write. I'd be in my room at Escape Motel in Ft Lauderdale sitting on floor writing words, Franks were in next room hammering out melodies and riffs. Bow to The King is about Muhammad Ali who I admired greatly, and was to be our Stairway to Heaven.
Our new producer who will go nameless and Capitol wanted us to write a song like 'I Am Women". So we were being pushed to be more commercial, even having the Raspberries sing backup on our commercial single. So we lost a lot of our heaviness but there's some great tunes. Then everybody handling BANG was fired as a new regime came in and pushed their bands
The three of us go together when I move back up to Claymont DE. We recorded it in Frankie's Basement on a four track cassette deck.. This to was fun.
Reunited with our manager Rick Bowen at his home and studio in Savannah. Had a great time staying with him and Donna.. Album came out great. Redid a couple songs with big productions.
